Written all the way back in 2005, it just might be one of the first stories to feature the IceQueen!Daphne. No list of Haphne fics would be complete without Jeconais' Perfect Situations and its sequel Matryoshka Vignettes. The story follows the usual tropes, but in my opinion, it actually does it well. Mind you, the Voldemort subplot is mostly relegated to background as romance is definitely the biggest focus. Daphne is your calculating Slytherin, Tracey is her ever-present friend, Harry asks her for help, and together they devise a way to defeat Voldemort. I particularly enjoyed the culture clash when Harry attempts to demonstrate to the pureblooded Daphne that muggles are not so different from them after all but misunderstands her point of view altogether.Ģ. The characters feel real instead of being caricature "Gryffindor Golden Boy" and "Slytherin Ice Queen," with Harry doing a bit of plotting of his own. For starters, the characters are both adults, which is already a rarity.
